The Germany international is tied to the club until summer 2016, and up until recently Dortmund had been attempting to get him to commit to a new deal.
However, the 24-year-old has now been told that he will not be offered a new contract, and will likely attempt to cash in on him over the summer with the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus joining United in their interest.
Gundogan began his Dortmund career with two solid seasons, but has consistently struggled with a series of injuries ever since their Champions League final in 2013, clocking up just 19 appearances across the previous two campaigns.
But now that he has returned to full fitness, he hopefully won’t have any trouble in convincing potential suitors that his darkest days are behind him.
