Casillas has been on both the Gunners’ and Man City’s radar.
Real Madrid club captain Iker Casillas has been left in the cold this season by new head coach Carlo Ancelotti and Borussia Dortmund are the latest side to be linked with the goalkeeper, reports German daily Bild.
Like Jose Mourinho before him, Ancelotti has preferred to play Diego Lopez between the sticks this season rather than Casillas and this has raised interest from both Arsenal and Manchester City.
The father of Mesut Ozil slams Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Yet Dortmund are now also keeping tabs, despite No.1 Roman Weidenfeller extending the German’s contract at the club until 2016 in May of this year.
However, with Casillas having won two Champions League titles, two European Championships and the World Cup, there probably aren’t many teams in Europe that wouldn’t want to have the 32-year-old – except for Madrid perhaps.
Ancelotti’s assistant and the Spaniard’s former team-mate Zinedine Zidane has insisted that all will be done to keep the stopper at the Santiago Bernabeu though.
“I do not think he [Casillas] wants to go. I’m going to have a private conversation with him,” the Frenchman was quoted by Bild.
Yet with the Spain skipper out of the Los Merengues side, there is every chance national coach Vicente Del Bosque will decide to replace the ‘keeper for the upcoming World Cup.
Despite the fact that Casillas has more caps for the country than any other player – 150 – if the stopper is not playing regularly then it would be hard for Del Bosque to field him.
Therefore the Spain international may have to seriously look into leaving Madrid or face a long term on the bench.
