Bundesliga runners-up to rival Reds for Shakhtar Donetsk star.
Borussia Dortmund have entered the race for Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to German daily Bild.
The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder went missing from the Ukrainian club’s pre-season training on Monday, amid reports Liverpool were close to tying up a £20m deal for the 24-year-old.
A picture of the player, reportedly taken in a London hotel, was circulated across the internet on Tuesday, suggesting a move to Anfield was potentially on the cards.
But Champions League finalists Dortmund are also thought to be tracking the Armenian international, who bagged a record-breaking 25 league goals for Shakhtar last season.
Mkhitaryan is reportedly keen to leave the Dombass Arena for Anfield this summer but Shakhtar have so far insisted that they have received no bids for the attacker.
Dortmund are in search of midfield reinforcements this summer and have money to spend, after German international playmaker Mario Goetze joined rivals Bayern Munich for £32m.
