Klopp is bemused that Madrid let such a talented player leave.
Ahead of their Champions League clash, Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has spoken about Arsenal’s capture of club record signing Mesut Ozil.
Klopp has admitted that the 46-year-old was amazed when Real Madrid allowed the attacking midfielder to leave and that the Gunners swooped in with a £42.4m deal.
“I couldn’t believe it was the truth. It’s not my job to sit and talk about these things, but if you have the opportunity [to sign Ozil] you have to try,” the German told ITV.
“He’s fast and a brilliant technician. It’s not often you get these things together, that’s why Cristiano [Ronaldo] didn’t find the idea [to sell Ozil] so good.”
Dortmund face an Arsene Wenger side high on confidence and in great form, having won all but two of their matches in all competitions this term.
Ozil has been instrumental in that success and has slotted straight into the setup at north London, already having scored three goals and provided five assists.
Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud have been further standout performers for Wenger’s men but in truth the club are playing well throughout the side.
With Dortmund having reached the Champions League final last term and winning two of the last three Bundesliga titles, this match would usually instill fear into an English side.
Yet with the form that Arsenal are in they are likely to be raring to go for this tie at the Emirates Stadium and hoping to maintain their 100% record in the tournament in 2013/14.
