Atletico’s Costa is on the wish list for the Germans.
Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has attracted plenty of attention for a brilliant season in La Liga and Borussia Dortmund are to challenge Arsenal for the signature of the player, reports the Daily Mail.
Dortmund are desperately trying to find a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, with the Poland international expected to leave the Westfalenstadion at the end of this current season when the forward’s contract expires.
The 25-year-old has not confirmed that he will join Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich however, despite various reports linking him with the European champions.
“I will be able to sign a contract [with any club] in January, but I have never said that I will sign a contract with Bayern,” Lewandowski told The Daily Telegraph back in October.
“It was a misunderstanding. It is true I had an opportunity to speak with Sir Alex Ferguson [last year], but we didn’t mention the transfer.
“One day I would like to play in Premier League. It would be a great experience.”
The Gunners have been linked with both men, with Liverpool also keeping tabs on Costa ahead of a potential move to Anfield – which the player admitted to nearly completing in the summer.
“I had the chance to leave. I was about to do so,” the 25-year-old was quoted by the Daily Express.
“Liverpool are a great team. But, after so much fighting and overcoming many difficulties to earn my place at Atletico, how was I going to leave?”
With 16 goals in just 15 matches in both La Liga and the Champions League, Costa is hot property at the moment and Europe’s elite are chasing the attacker.
The Reds wanted the newly declared Spain international to replace Luis Suarez – another who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and also Real Madrid, according to the Daily Star.
This attacking merry-go-round looks likely to hit fever pitch when the January transfer window comes around, with Lewandowski’s choice of new club likely to start of string of movement around Europe.
