The German side are eyeing up Lukaku.
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has emerged as a transfer target for Borussia Dortmund with the Bundesliga side likely to miss out on Torino’s Ciro Immobile, according to Italian football journalist Gianluca Dimarzio.
Dortmund are searching for a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, with the Pole set to join rivals Bayern Munich on a free transfer this summer.
Whilst Immobile remains their top choice after scoring 23 goals in all competitions in 2013/14, there has been difficulty in the negotiation process for the Italy international – who is also part-owned by Juventus.
As a result manager Jurgen Klopp has turned his attention to Lukaku instead, who’s future at Stamford Bridge remains in the balance after a difference of opinions with Jose Mourinho.
It was thought that the 21-year-old would be given a chance in west London last season after impressing the previous year whilst on-loan with West Bromwich Albion.
Yet on transfer deadline day on September 3 Lukaku was shipped out once again on a temporary deal, this time to Everton, where the Belgian netted 15 league goals in 31 appearances.
This form coupled with the attacker’s uncertainty over his future under Mourinho makes the Belgium international an attractive prospect as a potential signing.
Lukaku joined the west Londoners in 2011 for a fee rising to £18m and yet since than has failed to truly establish himself at the club – much to many peoples’ surprise.
Klopp is well known for developing young players and therefore a switch to the Signal Iduna Park may seem appealing to the starlet.
