Amir Khan has responded to claims from Eddie Hearn that he could make up to £4.5m by facing Kell Brook in a ‘superfight’ at Wembley in 2015.
Hearn was in attendance for Khan’s impressive win over Devon Alexander on December 13, and he stayed Stateside for meetings with the likes Al Haymon and attended the World Boxing Council’s annual summit as he revealed that he had productive discussions on various matters.
However, Khan has taken exception to his claims that he has ‘booked’ Wembley Stadium for June 13 with the hope that he can make Brook vs Khan for the fans.
Hearn has since explained why he had to ‘book’ the date with Wembley as he wants to put on a great show for British boxing fans at some stage next year and in turn had to secure the venue in case a particular fight materialises.
“They’ve not spoken to me. If he doesn’t know what’s happening in my career, he can’t go booking places like that,” said Khan.
“I think that’s a little disrespectful really. It’s very desperate. It’s like me saying to Floyd, ‘Look, I’ve booked Wembley Stadium and you have to come and fight me now.’ I can’t believe Kell’s rushing into this big fight with me.
“He’s just come off a big, major injury and I’m sure he’d want an easy fight just to get a feel back into boxing. It will be huge in the UK and it’s not a fight I’m saying no to. I’d love that fight. Stylistically, I’d beat Kell Brook and school Kell Brook.”
Brook is expected to return to the ring on March 7 to defend his title for the first time since defeating Shawn Porter earlier this year, and he has insisted that he will knock Khan out when they meet in the ring.
Meanwhile, Hearn is convinced that the Mayweather camp will not take the Khan fight and so he hopes to be able to put on another big night of British boxing with Khan making more money on a bigger platform in the process.
