Promoter Bob Arum has insisted that Carl Froch will not face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr as his contractual battle with the latter continues to rumble on.
Arum insists that Chavez Jr still has one fight remaining under his contract with Top Rank, and so he will have a significant say in who the Mexican faces in the ring next.
Chavez Jr has been in a battle to get out of his contract in order to sign elsewhere, but so far he has been unsuccessful and Arum is of the opinion that he will not take on Froch next without his approval.
“It’s not going to happen (Chavez Jr.-Froch) because Chavez is under contract with us, period. And until he honors the contract with us no fight is going to happen without everybody being subject to litigation,” Arum said, according to Boxing News.
The Mexican star has not fought since March 2014, and it remains to be seen whether or not he is prepared to allow the situation to rumble on or if he accepts his contractual obligations and fights under Arum’s banner one last time.
Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn has sounded adamant that his fighter would get his dream date in Las Vegas in the early part of 2015, but it now looks as though they still face the same hurdle moving forward.
Froch has talked down the possibility of fighting domestic rival James DeGale, with the Olympic gold medallist establishing himself as the mandatory challenger for the IBF title.
However, it is widely expected that Froch will vacate that belt in order to wait on his Vegas dream, but according to Arum, it is unlikely that dream will become a reality any time soon.
As a result, Froch may well have to re-consider his options, with DeGale and the Dirrell brothers the only realistic choices at this stage which may mean he will have to put his date in Vegas on hold until later in the year.
