Promoter Bob Arum has revealed that there has been “movement” in talks for a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao later this year.
Mayweather called out Pacquiao last month to fight him on May 2 and while Pacquiao has responded and insisted that he is ready to make the fight happen, there has been no confirmation of the fight as of yet.
However, those within the boxing industry believe that the fight could finally happen in 2015, and Arum has suggested that the two respective camps have edged closer to a deal but there is likely to be a long way to go before anything is confirmed or announced.
In an overseas telephone conversation, Arum said: “The talks are slow but at least there is movement,” according to Boxing Scene.
Arum went on to add that the problem is “always about money” as there is believed to be an on-going dispute over the fighters purses and the pay-per-view split.
He added that he isn’t sure one way or another on whether the fight will actually happen, and so fans will likely face further frustration in waiting for the bout to be made.
Pacquiao’s long-time adviser Michael Koncz also denied a story that Mayweather had turned down a deal for a 55-45 pay-per-view split with the winner getting the bigger share. He insisted that he had not given an interview in “over a month” and so there was no truth behind the comments.
Further, he noted that “there’s nothing new and it’s a long and slow process” as the wait goes on for what would be the biggest and richest fight in boxing history.
