Abraham vs Smith 2 head-to-head: (Video) Pair announce rematch in Berlin.
The 32-year-old heads to Berlin this week ahead of his rematch with Abraham hoping to avenge his controversial loss last September.
Smith insists that he won that fight, but ultimately the questions were over the gap in the judges’ scorecards with all three scoring it heavily in favour of the reigning champion.
Although he admits he was devastated at the time, Smith claims that he now knows he can beat Abraham after proving that he belongs at world level with his last performance.
Handily, he’s been receiving some key advice from a man who once held the WBO belt – while also facing some hard sparring with his son, Chris Eubank Jr.
According to Smith’s brother, Liam, Eubank Sr has spent a lot of time in the gym not only watching his son, but also handing out advice to the other fighters.
“When they’ve all finished sparring, he grabs all the kids in the gym and watches them all on the bag, giving young kids advice. He was good to have in the gym,” Smith told Sky Sports.
“Paul sparred Chris Jnr and then his father went home and watched Paul’s fight with Abraham. He came in the next day and said to him: ‘You threw 30 jabs in the ninth round and 40 in round 10 and they were your best rounds, you need to jab more’.
“He’s done all he can to try and give Paul advice when he’s sparring. Of course Joe [Gallagher] is in charge, but it was nice seeing Chris Eubank trying to help Paul out the best he can.”
Eubank Jr is back in action on February 28, but all eyes will be on the ring in the O2 Arena in Berlin on Saturday as Smith looks to dethrone ‘King Arthur’.
