Brook says Khan doesn’t deserve Mayweather fight: Brook wants domestic showdown.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has conceded that he is unsure if it is possible to make Kell Brook vs Amir Khan this year due to a number of factors working against them.
With Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao expected to finally agree on a bout on May 2, Khan is likely to miss out on his dream fight against the former again.
As a result, he will have to consider his options and the British boxing fans are eager to see another huge domestic showdown this year involving him and Brook.
Brook returns to the ring on March 28 to defend his IBF title against mandatory challenger Jo Jo Dan, but he has insisted that once he gets that out of the way, he will be gunning for big names in the division.
Hearn admitted that Khan is right to chase the Mayweather fight but he doubts he will land that bout and so he had planned to try and set up a date at Wembley against Brook. However, that appears to be problematic in itself.
“We were looking at Wembley in June but the problem with Khan is I’m not sure he can do that because of Ramadan [which starts on June 18]. He will have to fight in May or early June but I’m not sure Kell can do that because he’s fighting on March 28,” he told ESPN.
“I’m not too optimistic. We are now turning our attention to Juan Manuel Marquez, who we are talking to this week in London, Marcos Maidana and [Timothy] Bradley because we want Kell Brook in a pay per view event this summer, June or July, at Bramall Lane.
“It could happen later in the year but that would rule out the chance of doing it at somewhere like Wembley and you would have to do it at the Manchester Arena with 20,000 instead.”
It will be disappointing news for many who had hoped to see another massive Wembley bill similar to the one Matchroom put on last year with Carl Froch vs George Groves 2.
However, Hearn has suggested that both Scott Quigg vs Carl Frampton and James DeGale vs George Groves could yet happen in 2015 which potentially sets up another summer date at Wembley.
