Floyd Mayweather has dashed the hopes of Amir Khan again this week by insisting that no one outside of boxing knows who the Bolton fighter is.
Khan unsurprisingly called out Mayweather after his impressive win over Devon Alexander in Las Vegas last weekend, and he believes that he has now earned the right to now face the unbeaten American.
However, just a night earlier Mayweather went on live TV to insist that he wants Manny Pacquiao next and has circled May 2 as a possible date for the pair to finally meet in the ring.
‘Money’ all-but dismissed the possibility of fighting Khan by insisting that he doesn’t carry the numbers and fans to make the fight.
“The other night I think he did 4,000 [attendance], so, Amir Khan, his name holds no weight,” Mayweather said at the World Boxing Council convention. “No one knows who Amir Khan is, except for people who are involved in boxing.
“My focus is Manny Pacquiao. Let’s make it happen.”
Negotiations between Mayweather and Pacquiao have been on-going for over four years now, with both parties insisting that it is the other which is holding back the fight from happening.
However, both men have exchanged barbs on social media in recent weeks and the general feeling within the boxing industry is that this time round it could well happen.
Mayweather revealed in an exclusive interview with Fighthype on Wednesday that it was the Filipino and his promoter Bob Arum who are to blame for the fight not happening by now, as they rejected the calls for random blood and urine testing as well as an offer of $40m to enter the ring.
