Mayweather recently told FightHype that “training camp has went tremendous” so far after starting four days ago, and if reports are to be believed, he is firing in sparring already.
The Mayweather Gym is on lock down in the sense that no media are allowed in and no video recording devices of any kind are permitted on the premises while he trains.
It is in stark contrast to Pacquiao who has openly shared videos of his training camp in a daily diary on Instagram so far, but Mayweather has taken the completely opposite approach and isn’t giving his rival any indication of what he is doing, and how he is doing.
With eight weeks remaining until the fight, the fact that Mayweather is stopping sparring partners can be seen as a positive or a negative thing. While it shows that he is perhaps more focused than ever before, it is also questions his schedule and whether or not he is going to peak too soon.
Meanwhile, there is also the argument that these are purely mind-games from the ‘Money Team’, and the 38-year-old may not even be doing the things that are being reported given that FightHype are obviously his preferred outlet and will report what he wants them to.
Nevertheless, it all adds to the intrigue of the bout in May as the two pound-for-pound kings will finally face off and put their rivalry to bed.
Prior to that, they are scheduled to attend a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and naturally the hope is that it will be explosive despite the fact that Pacquiao is generally reserved and isn’t know for having a confrontational attitude ahead of his fights.
