Bermane Stiverne has been released from hospital after treatment for what his promoter described as post-fight dehydration after losing to Deontay Wilder.
Stiverne and promoter Don King were expected to meet reporters at the MGM Grand resort on Monday, but the former heavyweight champion was only released from the Las Vegas hospital after treatment in the evening.
The 36-year-old has been recovering after losing his WBC world title to rival Deontay Wilder who won a 12-round unanimous decision to become the first American in over nine years to win a heavyweight title.
Wilder improved his record to 33-0 (32 KOs) and is eyeing big fights this year including a potential unification bout against Wladimir Klitschko, but he paid tribute to his opponent on Saturday despite the bad blood between them prior to the bout.
Both Wilder and Stiverne had exchanged heated words for months over both social media and in press conferences, and they had both promised to inflict pain on the other.
However, it was Wilder who came out on top with a decision win and he praised the toughness of his rival in taking his shots and still lasting the distance.
While Stiverne will now be expected to make a full recovery, it remains to be seen what he does next as he looks to get another world title shot after claiming the belt last May when he stopped Chris Arreola to take the belt which had been vacated after the retirement of Vitali Klitschko.
In the more immediate future, it is welcome news that the heavyweight star has now left hospital and has made a full recovery.
