Arum says “movement” in Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Promoter suggests edging closer to deal.
Renowned trainer Freddie Roach has revealed that a deal to finally make Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao is “very close”.
Talks have reportedly been on-going between the two camps over the past few weeks after Mayweather called out his rival to face him in the ring on May 2.
The pair have since exchanged indirect messages over social media, while promoter Bob Arum revealed last week that there has been movement in talks.
However, this is perhaps the clearest indication yet that the fight that boxing fans have been waiting for for many years is finally edging closer to being made.
“I talked to Bob Arum yesterday. I think I’m getting close to saying it’s very close, I think we’re very close,” Roach said, as reported by thesweetscience.com.
Roach went on to reveal that he is on good terms with Al Haymon and again reiterated that the fight is “closer than ever” to being made.
Nevertheless, there is an obvious hesitancy for fans to be too excited by the news until there is an official announcement to say that the fight has been confirmed.
Issues remain over purses and other financial aspects while Mayweather may well yet continue to insist on the blood tests that have created a problem in the past.
However, as suggested by those within boxing since the turn of the year, there is a genuine belief that this time round the fight will happen as Mayweather plans his last two fights on his current Showtime deal for 2015.
