George Groves and Eddie Hearn have swapped verbals on Twitter as the former responded to claims that it would be a 50/50 purse split in a rematch with James DeGale.
Groves suggested that Hearn “can talk some waffle” after using a screenshot of a recent interview in which the promoter suggested that the 26-year-old was on a different planet if he didn’t want to take a 50/50 split.
Hearn added that DeGale has taken 10 steps forward in his career over the past 12 months while Groves has looked average at best in his last two fights after being stopped by Carl Froch twice before that.
The Matchroom promoter evidently wants to make the rematch but it is clear that Groves intends on getting his shot at the WBC title against Anthony Dirrell first before setting up a second professional bout against his long-time rival.
DeGale is scheduled to have a press conference on Tuesday in which he is expected to have his IBF world title shot announced for the O2 Arena in London on April 25.
@StGeorgeGroves oooooh I say! A sensible offer? You can wait! You need to wake up from May 31st kiddo #cobra'd
