While Brook successfully defended his welterweight title on Saturday night, Khan was in action a night earlier as he overcame Chris Algieri on points.
After being interviewed by Sky Sports on Tuesday, Khan insisted that he was closer than ever to securing a fight with Floyd Mayweather and that the bout with his domestic rival didn’t interest him.
However, Brook has dismissed his chances of fighting the unbeaten American and can’t understand why he would turn down the opportunity to fight him for a world title in front of a packed stadium in the UK.
The 29-year-old believes that the only reason behind it is that Khan is scared of facing him, something that promoter Eddie Hearn has also accused him of.
“I think he’s full of rubbish. If there is a world title on the line, any fighter that lives with a pair of gloves wants to fight for a world title,” Brook told Sky Sports.
“There is no bigger fight in Britain than me and Khan, it sells any arena out. It doesn’t make any sense to me at all, so he’s got to be running scared.
“There is no chance of him getting the Floyd Mayweather fight. He’s done nothing to merit that fight. Every time he’s stepped up, he’s got knocked out. I don’t know why he’s playing these games.”
Brook himself is fully aware that he needs to step up in terms of the quality of his opposition in his next fight, and given that the Khan clash is unlikely, the likes of Brandon Rios and Juan Manuel Marquez have both been mentioned.
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen if Khan can get his dream bout with Mayweather for September, with ‘Money’ set to hang up his gloves for good after.
