Canelo says Mayweather dictates entertainment value: Alvarez says it depends on how open Floyd is.
The pair will attend the fight at the MGM Grand on May 2, and provided that Brook comes through his title defence this Saturday in Sheffield, there will only be two champions in a division packed with talent.
With talk of a domestic showdown with Amir Khan losing traction, Brook is setting his sights on an even bigger prize and has revealed that he would love a shot at the winner of boxing’s super-fight in order to unify the division.
“Me and Eddie Hearn will be out there in Vegas, enjoying ourselves, watching that fight,” Brook told Sky Sports.
“I want Mayweather. I want the best pound-for-pound fighter that everyone has titled him as. I want to fight the very best – I’m in my prime, I’m unbeaten, I’m world champion.”
Brook won the IBF belt after defeating the previously unbeaten Shawn Porter in California last year, and he will receive another boost this weekend as his fight against Jo Jo Dan will be aired by Showtime in the USA which will continue to help build his profile Stateside.
While the 28-year-old is undoubtedly a talented fighter and has the makings of being the best in the division, he still lacks the star attraction that Mayweather would want in his next opponent, if he decides to box on after the Pacquiao bout.
With talk of the fight being worth close to $500m, there are suggestions that both men could retire after as there would be little else available in the sport to top such a momentous event.
Meanwhile, Brook is confident that he won’t suffer any slip-ups this weekend as he returns the ring after suffering a knife-attack on holiday shortly after the Porter win.
