Manny Pacquiao has insisted that he is 80 percent certain that he will fight Floyd Mayweather on May 2 but warns his rival it is now or never.
Pacquiao has claimed for the past fortnight that he has agreed to all the terms of the fight, including a 60-40 purse split in favour of Mayweather, along with a drug-testing plan, venue and date.
The Filipino insists that he is now just waiting for Mayweather to sign the contract, but the unbeaten American has told the media that Pacquiao has no say in negotiations and there is nothing to agree to yet.
Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza has also involved himself in the exchange by insisting that promoter Bob Arum is the issue and that the media should ask him for proof of the contract he claims to have.
A rematch with Miguel Cotto has been mentioned while Pacquiao has been quoted this week as saying he would be interested in fighting Amir Khan in England, but it appears as though Mayweather is still at the top of his list and he is confident that an agreement will eventually be reached.
“I think it will happen, I believe that,” he told Ringside Special.
“If this doesn’t happen now I don’t think it will, so now is the time.
“If you ask me what the percentage is, it’s 80-20 [that it will happen].
“I think he’s got pressure. He’s got no alibi – blood testing is no longer a problem, Bob Arum the promoter is no longer a problem, now there are no more problems.
“The fans are pressuring him. I tell them we have agreed everything, the rules and regulations are not a problem.
“And if you want it higher, I am happy with that. I will take 40 [per cent of the purse] to 60. I’m OK with that – for the sake of the fans.
“We are just waiting for you to sign the contract.”
The war of words between the pair has been on-going for years and Pacquiao insists that the best thing that Mayweather can do for his career is to fight him otherwise it will reflect badly on him.
With the deadline fast approaching at the end of the month, it remains to be seen whether or not the pair are finally able to put pen to paper on an agreement as fans await an announcement.
