Pacquiao is understood to have agreed to various terms of the deal, including a 60-40 purse split in favour of the American along with the venue, date, drug-testing protocol and order of ring entrances amongst other things.
It is also reported that broadcasters HBO and Showtime have nearly come to an agreement over the broadcasting and production side of things and so fans are anxiously waiting for an official announcement.
After the fighters met for the first time at an NBA game last month, they also spoke privately in Pacquiao’s hotel suite later that night and Mayweather has since leaked photos and videos from that meeting.
As a result, Pacquiao believes that the fight will happen this time and he believes that the fans won’t have to wait too much longer for an announcement.
“I’m thinking that the fight will happen. So hopefully, within one week, though, we can hear from them and fix the fight…I don’t want that when I retire from boxing, there’s a big question in the minds of the fans,” Pacquiao stated, according to Boxing Scene.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has been cited as a problem in negotiations as he continues to make statements to the media blaming Mayweather’s camp for the hold up.
However, the unbeaten American superstar insists that he is the one pushing for the fight to be made and that the rest is all lies.
Whatever the truth of the matter behind closed doors, all that is important at this stage is that the fight is made and Mayweather vs Pacquiao delivers the answer as to who the pound-for-pound king in boxing is on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Vegas.
