Mayweather camp suggest Pacquiao deal close: Floyd must give green light to bout.
Manny Pacquiao has given long-time rival Floyd Mayweather until the end of January to agree to fight him on May 2, according to reports.
Pacquiao has now reportedly agreed to all the terms set by Mayweather which included a 60-40 purse split in favour of the American as well as the MGM Grand being the venue and the drug-testing plan prior to the fight.
As a result, it is understood that the fight is merely waiting for the green light from Mayweather, however, it hasn’t been forthcoming as of yet.
While HBO and Showtime are also rumoured to be in negotiations over a deal to broadcast the bout, Pacquiao insists that he will not wait around forever for Mayweather to sign the contract.
“My promoter and I, we’ve already agreed to the terms and conditions of whatever he wants. We’re just waiting on the signed contract from him,” Pacquiao told the Los Angeles Times.
“That’s the hard part – if they will fight or not. We have to know soon, because if they will not fight, we can move on and choose another opponent.
“We have a deadline…this month.”
Pacquiao added that the fans deserve the fight after negotiations have been on and off since 2009, and he wants to finally put to rest the debate over who is the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world.
The general consensus has been that the pair are as close as ever to agreeing on the fight, but it remains to be seen whether or not they get beyond the final hurdle and make an announcement before the end of the month and official reveal that the fight is on.
