Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard has revealed that he has been told that Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao will happen later this year.
While blame continues to be thrown around in the media, it is unclear at this stage as to whether or not the fight will actually happen.
Pacquiao claimed last week that he had agreed to all the terms set out by his rival including a a 60-40 purse split in favour of the American, a drug-testing plan, venue and the date.
However, Mayweather responded by insisting that Pacquiao was just a “pawn” in negotiations and that he had no say so in the talks with promoter Bob Arum the man in charge of making a deal.
Mayweather went on to blame Arum for the hold up in not making the fight happen, while others insist that it is the unbeaten American who is failing to sign off on the deal.
It is a familiar story for fans who are still waiting for the fight to be announced, and Leonard believes that despite all the nonsense with the exchanges in the media the fight will be made.
“I’ve heard from some very reliable sources that the fight’s gonna come to fruition, it’s gonna happen,” Leonard told Fight Hype.
“It’s gonna be a fight that breaks all records. It’s gonna be so highly-anticipated that within itself will break all records. I can’t wait to witness that.”
While it is hoped the Leonard’s sources are correct, nothing will be believed for sure until the contracts are signed and the two men officially announce the bout.
