Cruiserweight star Tony Bellew has revealed that he is in talks with three world champions as he targets a title shot in the coming months.
The Liverpudlian secured a split-decision win over Nathan Cleverly in November to make it three straight wins in the cruiserweight division, and the latest victory opened the door to a bout with one of the three world champions.
Bellew has now revealed that discussions have already taken place with WBO champion Marco Huck, IBF holder Yoan Pablo Hernandez and WBA king Denis Lebedev.
“Yes, they are possibilities and they are people who we are speaking to, but we are also speaking to the likes of Denis Lebedev. He’s another one who is part of the plans. It’s not just Huck or Hernandez, Lebedev is an option too,” he told Sky Sports.
“We’ll look down all avenues and see which one suits us best and the time frame, because these guys are world champions. They are not just going to wait around for me. I’m not the only fighter that they can possibly face.”
The 32-year-old added he would preferably like to face Huck as he believes that it would be the most exciting fight out of the three available. However, while he also believes that Hernandez is perhaps the best of the trio, he doesn’t mind who he faces as he believes he will become the best cruiserweight in the world regardless of who he faces.
However, Bellew is adamant that he will not be travelling to Germany to face Huck and he is eyeing a possible date at Goodison Park in April for the title fight.
“I won’t entertain him in Germany. You have to get a knockout just to get a draw in Germany to be honest.
“I have no plans on going to Germany whatsoever. If we are going to fight, it’s going to be in London or Goodison Park, that’s a dream night that I’m looking at.”
