Tony Bellew could make a highly anticipated return to the ring on April 18 in a cruiserweight world title fight, according to Boxing Scene.
Bellew moved up to the cruiserweight division last year where he won all three fights including a grudge match against bitter domestic rival Nathan Cleverly.
The pair met at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on November 22 with Bellew securing a victory in a split-decision win in what was a WBO title eliminator.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has previously spoken about the prospect of landing the Merseysider a title fight in 2015, and it appears as though that could come in April.
Bellew’s trainer, David Coldwell, was delighted with his fighter’s performances last year and he is excited about what the future holds for the team.
“I’m used to ups and downs in this game, I’ve had them since day one, ” Coldwell said.
“I’ve got a lot more happy nights with Bellew and I’m convinced that ends with him becoming world champion. The media attention his fight with Nathan Cleverly received took me back to the days of working with David Haye and it was fantastic to be involved in the sport at such a level.”
The ‘Bomber’ is expected to land a shot against either WBO champion Marco Huck or IBF king Yoan Pablo Hernandez. However, the fight with Huck has received attention previously, and given Hearn’s close working relationship with fellow promoter Kalle Sauerland, that fight could well be made in the coming months.
