The Ukrainian currently holds the WBA, WBO and IBF titles in the heavyweight division, but it is widely felt that he won’t be at the top of the sport for much longer given that he is now 39 years of age.
His departure, whether through a loss or eventual retirement, will certainly open the door for a new heavyweight star to emerge and unify the division. Deontay Wilder currently holds the WBC strap, while Tyson Fury will challenge Klitschko later this year in a bid to end his reign.
However, the heavyweight king insists that it will be Joshua who rules the division when the time is right and he has seen enough from the British star to make him confident enough to put money on it.
“I can talk about Anthony Joshua a lot,” he said, Sky Sports report.
“I can say a lot of good things about him and I like the way this guy is developing so well.
“I would say – probably on a short line – I am so confident he will become the dominant force in the heavyweight division. I would put any money on Anthony Joshua winning any other fight that comes up. That means a lot!”
After spending time in camp with Klitschko last year, Joshua has moved to 13-0 as a professional and has stopped every single opponent that he has faced.
While he is expected to step up later this year and take on some of his domestic rivals, promoter Eddie Hearn in particular is confident that he will become a world champion sooner rather than later as he doesn’t believe any fighter can stand up to his power and overall boxing ability.
