Thierry Henry – Arsenal to Barcelona, 2007, €24m
There are no more platitudes to describe Henry’s time with the Gunners. Quite simply he is a club legend of the highest order and it is unlikely that his legacy will be surpassed for quite some time indeed.
However, when he was sold to Barca in the summer of 2007, many believed Wenger had lost the plot, only it quickly became clear that Henry was on the cusp of passing his best. That doesn’t mean he was a flop for the Spaniards – he still managed to bag 49 goals in 121 appearances, including 26 assists, and helped the club to seven major titles during his time there, one of which was the Champions League, which had eluded him during his time in north London.
