Alex Song, Arsenal to Barcelona, 2012, €19m
Song was a defensive midfield tour de force during his time with the Gunners, and there is still a feeling that the club have still not adequately replaced him two years down the line.
Having been voted Arsenal’s player of the season for two years running, Wenger didn’t want the Cameroonian to leave, and though he earned them a healthy transfer fee there is a good argument to state that the deal has left the club in a worse position.
His time at Barca cannot exactly be deemed as a success as he is currently in the process of brokering a move elsewhere, and his appearance tally has yet to beak into triple figures.
Deal for Arsenal: 5/10
Deal for Barcelona: 4/10
