After entering at #19 in the Royal Rumble, Reigns continued where he left off at the 2014 Rumble match by eliminating five unlucky Superstars in the Over-the-Top-Rope Elimination match. He started off by quickly eliminating the Rhodes brothers, Stardust and Goldust before the match turned into a battle of heavyweights as the likes of Big E, Jack Swagger, Ryback, Kane, Bad News Barrett and Big Show made the match much more intense.
With Authority members Kane and Big Show teaming up late in the match, the pair collectively eliminated Bray Wyatt, Ryback, Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose before setting their eyes on Reigns.
But the impromptu alliance was short lived as Big Show turned on Kane as they were trying to eliminate Reigns, allowing Reigns to sneak up and eliminate both of them. The Authority members quickly jumped back into the ring and starting attacking Reigns before the telltale “IF YOU SMELL! WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!” music blared and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ran to the ring to protect his cousin. After Reigns and The Rock dispatched Kane and Big Show, Rusev, who had been outside the ring but not eliminated, tried to pull a fast one and eliminate Reigns, but the former Shield powerhouse was too smart for that, delivering an earth-shattering Spear to Rusev before easily tossing him out of the ring to win the 2015 Royal Rumble Match and move on to the Main Event of Wrestlemania XXXI for a WWE title match.
Curiously, the fans in the audience were not as impressed by Reigns’ performance, booing the former Shield member upon his victory. Then again, pretty much anyone who wasn’t either Ryback, Dolph Ziggler or of course Daniel Bryan probably would have been the recipient of a frustrated Philadelphia crowd.
There are so many questions left unanswered: Has The Rock made an enemy out of The Authority? What will become of Daniel Bryan and his quest to reclaim the WWE World Heavyweight Championship? Has Roman Reigns jumped to the top of The Authority’s hit-list?
But most important: What are Roman Reigns’ chances of winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania XXXI.
