The Cleveland Browns announced that Brian Hoyer will start in the next preseason game, but they are looking to figure out who their Week 1 starter will be soon.
The Cleveland Browns initially planned to start Johnny Manziel at quarterback in their second preseason game, but head coach Mike Pettine has had a change of heart and will start Brian Hoyer instead.
Hoyer did nothing to stand out in the first preseason game, but Manziel did not outperform him by a wide margin, so Hoyer still has a slight hold on the starting job for now.
However, Manziel is gaining a lot of support from some of his teammates. He will have another chance to prove himself as a worthy Week 1 starter in the remainder of the preseason.
Here is a tweet from CBS NFL insider Jason La Canfora confirming the Browns’ announcement.
