Injuries before and during the game make the Gold Coast’s task that much harder.
The Brisbane Broncos outlasted a depleted Gold Coast Titans to record a 22-8 win at Lang Park on Friday night reports Back Page Lead.
They bravely fought on, leading for a large portion of the game before the Broncos finally hit the front 17 minutes from full-time.
An early penalty put the Titans in front 2-0, before the Broncos made the most of a glut of possession and scored the game’s first try when Dale Copley crossed in the corner.
The Titans hit back five minutes later when Anthony Don crossed for their first try and ensured the Gold Coast side took an 8-4 lead to the break.
Brisbane looked to have levelled the scores soon after the break, only to have the video referee call the try back because of an obstruction.
Copley scored his second try to level the scores in the 57th minute, diving over a vacant line after Justin Hodges flicked the ball between his legs from dummy half.
Matt Gillett finally put the Broncos in front when he dived on a Ben Hunt grubber in the 63d minute.
Jack Reed put the final nail in the Titans’ coffin when he planted a Hunt grubber six minutes from full-time.
