The Brisbane Lions streak ahead in the race for the AFL pre-season NAB final.
The Brisbane Lions are topping the NAB Cup ladder after the weekend’s round 1 result, reports Fox Sports.
With an unbeaten pre-season competition run, the Lions are looking for wins against Greater Western Sydney and Collingwood to complete a perfect run into the 2013 AFL season.
The Lions will go into round two of the NAB Cup looking to secure a finals appearance and keep their winning record when they take on GWS at Wagga this Saturday.
Backing up from their win against Hawthorn, the Lions completed their promising start to the year with a convincing 33 point win against their local rivals the Gold Coast Suns.
The results were made all the more impressive without team powerhouse and co-captain Jonathan Brown. The Lions were also without their other co-captain, Jed Adcock and veteran Simon Black.
The Gold Coast Suns managed a thrilling one point win over Hawthorn in their opening game before losing to the Lions. Suns utility Luke Russell was the local hero of the night when his behind after the full-time buzzer sealed the win for the GCS.
Hawks star Lance Franklin will be sweating on results from the review board after collecting midfielder Matt Shaw with a head blow early into the second half.
