A video taken in 2013 that depicts a brawl on a beach with a man throwing punches and whipping several people with his belt, including a woman, has been revealed to be New Orleans Saints LB Junior Galette.
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the National Football League has been made aware of the incident as have the Saints.
In the video (below) a bearded man in a white shirt, allegedly Galette, brawls with a man in blue swim trunks and starts whipping him with a belt. When a woman gets in Galette’s face, he strikes her with the belt as well several times before he is escorted away from the scene. Galette comes back to the scene about 40 seconds later and starts throwing more punches at people before being led away and the video ends.
An undrafted free agent out of Stillman College in 2010, Galette fought his way onto the Saints roster and had a breakout year in 2013 with 12.0 sacks, and followed it up with another strong season in 2014 with 10.0 sacks and 45 tackles. On September 3, 2014, Galette signed a four-year contract extension worth $41.5 million (£26.1 million).
Since the NFL implemented a new policy on domestic abuse following the infamous Ray Rice scandal last summer, it will be interesting to see if the NFL imposes harsh punishments on Galette.
