Clay emerged as a solid weapon for quarterback Ryan Tannehill as he set career highs in 2013 with 69 receptions for 759 yards and six touchdowns.
Clay’s numbers went slightly down in 2014 due to knee and hamstring injuries, but he was still able to finish with 58 catches for 605 yards and three touchdowns.
The Bills have been unable to have reliable tight end production with Scott Chandler, who has been inconsistent.
Bills general manager Doug Whaley reportedly planned on selecting Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron with the ninth overall pick in the 2014 draft, but he ended up trading up to the fourth pick for wide receiver Sammy Watkins.
Ebron was selected with the 10th pick by the Lions. There are not any blue-chip tight end prospects in this year’s draft class,.
Minnesota’s Maxx Williams, who is considered the top tight end prospect, is being graded as a late first-round pick, so the Bills may choose to trade up for him or take him in the second round.
