Hasler was quick to play down suggestions that the Bulldogs were looking to sign the Wallabies star.
Canterbury Bulldogs coach Des Hasler has denied holding talks to attempt to lure rugby union star Kurtley Beale to Belmore next season.
Hasler was spotted watching Beale during the Waratahs Super League minor premiership win two weeks ago, fuelling speculation he was in discussion with the Wallabies player about a code-switch to league.
Hasler was open to answering questions about his appearance at the Waratahs game, and even joked that Beale’s team-mate Michael Hooper had signed with the Bulldogs.
“You can’t even go to the rugby these days and enjoy a game of rugby, can you? I think they’re a wonderful side, the Waratahs. And it’s great that Michael Hooper will be joining the Bulldogs this year,” he said.
He was quick to shut down suggestions that he has been in discussions with Beale over a possible switch.
“I haven’t spoken to any Waratahs players, full stop. He’s a good footballer, full stop.”
