Saints host another ‘big’ Premier League side in the form of Chelsea this weekend.
In-form Southampton front man Rickie Lambert claims that the relegation-threatened Saints are now not scared of the big teams in the Premier League.
New Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, who replaced previous head coach Nigel Adkins in the St Mary’s dug-out late last year, has guided the South Coast club to eye-catching home wins over both top-flight champions Manchester City and high-flying Liverpool since the turn of the year, and now the 31-year-old attacker says the club are full of confidence as they prepare to host Champions League winners Chelsea on Saturday.
And, with Southampton now four points clear of the drop zone after an impressive recent run of just three losses since the Argentinian arrived, victory against the Blues would all but see them safe for this season.
“We’ve maybe shown the big clubs too much respect in the past,” Lambert told BBC Radio Solent.
“I don’t think that’s the case anymore.”
