Turkish international expected to seal €12m move to Italy.
Galatasaray striker Burak Yilmaz is close to reaching an agreement with Lazio, with his transfer expected to take place in the coming days.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Italian capital for the past week, and with intense negotiations on-going between officials from both clubs over the past two days, it is understood that an agreement is close.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Turkish international will join in a deal worth €12m including bonuses, despite Galatasaray originally holding a valuation of the player closer to around €18m.
There is still the matter of how the payments will be made by the capital club, but nevertheless both clubs are confident a deal can be struck.
President Claudio Lotito has understandably been lauded by the Italian media for the “gift” that he has presented coach Vladimir Petkovic with just days left in the transfer window.
The discussions are set to continue on Thursday with a view to the player agreeing personal terms with the Biancocelesti, but it is widely reported that Yilmaz is now more or less a Lazio player.
Having come close to challenging for a place in the Champions League over the past two seasons, Lazio supporters will be delighted by the club’s activity in the market this summer as they continue to strengthen the squad.
The biggest criticism that they have faced is their over-reliance on veteran striker Miroslav Klose, who will now be provided with cover as well as possible competition for the season ahead.
