It was the Sam Williams and Blake Austin show at Hunter Stadium as the Raiders ran riot. Edrick Lee also bagged a double in a strong performance.
Canberra’s first try came against the run of play and was smartly set up by Blake Austin.
After just 16 minutes Lee had his second try.
Soon Jack Wighton made it 18-0 and the Knights were in trouble.
Akila Uate gave them some hope with a terrific finish.
And then Bj Leilua’s top handling put them in the box seat.
But just before half-time Josh Papalii crossed to ease pressure on the visitors.
The Knights kept plugging away and cut the lead back to 24-16.
But Newcastle kept letting in tries and Austin got his first.
Austin then got his double with a nice dummy.
The Knights were finished but Dane Gagai gave them something to cheer about with this try.
There was still time for Canberra to respond though, Jarrod Croker finishing off a great game for the Raiders.
