Reni Maitua’s contract with the Canterbury Bulldogs is in danger of being torn up after he was involved in a wild brawl outside a Brisbane nightclub last Sunday.
Maitua was left out of Samoa’s team to face England on Friday, along with Cowboys centre Tautau Moga and Wests Tigers forward Sauaso Sue, who were both present during the fracas.
Moga was arrested for his involvement in the brawl, with police forced to use capsicum spray to diffuse the situation.
According to The Courier Mail, a 32-year-old NSW man is facing charges of obstructing police and assault, however neither police nor the NRL would confirm it was Maitua.
Samoa officials released a statement on Tuesday night confirming the three players were involved in the fight and that the NRL Integrity Unit were investigating the incident.
“Please note that Reni Maitua, Tautau Moga and Sauaso Sue were not considered for selection for the match against England pending finalisation of an NRL Integrity Unit review of an incident in Brisbane over the weekend,” the statement read.
Maitua was on the brink of having his Bulldogs contract torn up last year after he was charged with assault following a late-night altercation with a taxi driver.
He was made to a agree to a set of behavioural guidelines that he must adhere to in order to remain at the NRL club.
Those guidelines are no in danger of being breached following Sunday’s events.
The Samoan team were special guests at the Hot Gossip Nightclub in Fortitude Valley for a VIP night in which fans were invited to meet the players.
