It’s what is known as a ‘relegation six pointed’ in the Premier League as Cardiff City host Aston Villa in the Welsh capital.
Both sides had disappointing weekends in the league, with Cardiff losing the south Wales derby to rivals Swansea City 3-0 and Villa succumbing to a 0-2 home defeat at the hands of West Ham United.
The loss to the Hammers sees Paul Lambert’s side continue a poor run of form that has seen them lose seven of their last 11 matches and fall ever closer to the drop.
It’s a similar story for the Bluebirds, who have won just twice in their last 10 outings and are floundering in 19th position.
There is further bad news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as well as the Norwegian tries to avoid the Championship, as the visitors have earned 16 of their 27 points this term away from home.
A win in this tie for the Villans could lift them into the top 10 – which just goes to show how close the relegation battle is this campaign.
Defenders Mark Hudson and Andrew Taylor remain sidelined with injury for the hosts, whilst midfielder Craig Noone faces a late fitness test.
For Villa both Chelsea loanee Ryan Bertrand and captain Ron Vlaar remain doubts, with the left-back picking up a rib injury against West Ham and the skipper struggling with a hamstring problem.
