Carl Frampton will defend his IBF super-bantamweight title against Chris Avalos on Saturday night with the bout being aired live on ITV.
Frampton makes the first defence of his title this weekend and the atmosphere in Belfast should be electric as big-time boxing returns to terrestrial TV in the UK.
The 28-year-old has been impressive in recent outings with wins over the likes of Kiko Martinez and Jeremy Parodi, and he has promised another explosive performance on Saturday as he looks to continue to win in style and gain further recognition around the world.
With the likes of Leo Santa Cruz and Guillermo Rigondeaux reigning as the other champions in the division at this stage, he will be on the cusp of big fights this year. In addition, there is always the domestic showdown with Scott Quigg that has been touted for the summer.
However, his focus for now will be on Avalos, who arrives in Belfast with a 25-2 record with 19 knockouts, and the tough American hasn’t come to play games.
The pair clashed at the weigh-in on Friday as Frampton has insisted all week that he is going knock the arrogance out of his opponent, and with both men looking to put on a show it should be an exciting encounter.
Avalos loves to put pressure on his opponents and while he isn’t difficult to hit, there is always the risk of being tagged while engaging.
However, Frampton has too much class and confidence at this point to back his opponent, and so the hometown hero will be expected to claim a stoppage win later in the fight as Avalos begins to feel the force of his shots and it starts to slow him down.
Frampton is scheduled to ring-walk at 10.50 p.m. (UK time)
