WBA and IBF super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has revealed that he is hopeful of making an announcement soon regarding his next fight.
Despite domestic rival James DeGale establishing himself as the mandatory challenger for his IBF title, Froch has made no secret of his desire of fighting in Vegas before he retires.
Meanwhile, he also dismissed the possibility of the DeGale fight this week by insisting that it is a clash that won’t motivate him and that the general public don’t want that fight.
While many will disagree, it appears as though Froch will be looking elsewhere next year and he revealed that talks are progressing with Chavez Jr.
“I’ve said before if I can’t fight in Vegas I’ll probably call it a day, it has to be big, and Chavez Jr is that man, and I have had a good chat with my promoter this morning and we are making good progress with that fight and hopefully we’ll have an announcement soon,” Froch exclusively told ITV News.
Froch’s latest statement will be disappointing for many British boxing fans who had hoped to see another domestic dust-up in January next year, but it is clear that the Nottingham-born fighter is keen to look elsewhere.
DeGale will focus his attention on Marco Antonio Periban in Liverpool on November 22, and if Froch is unable to get an exception from the IBF, his decision to chase the Chavez Jr. fight could result in him having to vacate the belt.
While DeGale has been adamant that he would be able to beat Froch, he has previously insisted that it is about making history by becoming the first British Olympic gold medallist to go on and win a world title.
Whether or not that’s against Froch remains to be seen, but the 28-year-old is determined to get the belt and he will hope to put on a show next month to continue to build his profile and gain respect within the division.
