Carolina Panthers – Panthers upset Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cam Newton – Panthers QB injures ribs Greg Hardy – Panthers DE found guilty of assaulting girlfriend
The Carolina Panthers got starting QB Cam Newton back in practice today. Newton, who injured his ribs in the third preseason game against the Patriots several weeks ago, missed the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Panthers managed to beat the Buccaneers without Newton’s availability but still plan to start him against the Detroit Lions. Newton led the Panthers to a 12-4 record and a division title in 2013, their first of each since 2008.
Meanwhile, DE Greg Hardy, who led the team with 15.0 sacks in 2013, was mysteriously absent. Hardy was found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend several months ago, but has not been disciplined by the league. In light of the recent actions taken against RB Ray Rice, it is possible among other things that Hardy was trying to avoid the media’s inquiry into his own actions.
Hardy has 26.0 sacks over the last two years, 5th most in the league during that span. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013.
