Panthers QB Cam Newton will be absent in the team’s final preseason game against the Steelers after suffering a rib injury. The Panthers intended to play their starters in the final game.
The Carolina Panthers take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday in the final week of the NFL preseason.
The Panthers intend to play their starters in the preseason game usually reserved for backups, but head coach Ron Rivera did not feel satisfied with where the starters were at the end of Week 3. The starters will not have the services of QB Cam Newton, who suffered a hairline rib fracture against the Patriots last week. Newton is expected to be ready to go by the regular season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Steelers are in a bit of trouble after both of the team’s starting RBs, Le’Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount, were arrested last week. The two RBs are currently facing suspension by the team after being formally charged. It is very likely that whichever RB the Steelers play against the Panthers could be the team’s starter at some point in the near future.
Prediction: Panthers – Plenty of offensive depth which the Steelers sorely lack at the moment.
