Liverpool fan and Rory McIlroy’s former girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki may have just shocked the tennis world by announcing her retirement from the sport on Twitter.

In what is most likely an elaborate April Fools joke by the Dane, she wrote on her official page over two messages: “As of today I am officially announcing my retirement from tennis and I am going to focus on TV and modelling.
“I want to thank all of you for the amazing support over the years, it’s been truly amazing! It wouldn’t have been the same without you!”

In the unlikely event that the former World no.1 is seriously announcing that she’s quitting tennis it would signal the end of a promising career but one that ultimately fell short.
Wozniacki may have reached the pinnacle of the world rankings in the Women’s Tennis Association but failed in her quest to win a Grand Slam.
In her two appearances in a Grand Slam final, both at the US Open, Wozniack lost 7-5 6-3 to Kim Clijsters in 2009 and 6-3 6-3 to Serena Williams last year in New York.
More recently Wozniacki achieved a personal goal by appearing in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for the 2015 edition.
Her current WTA record stands at an impressive 22 title wins and an overall career win percentage of 72 per-cent, having finished the year no. 1 for two consecutive years in 2010 and 2011.
But you can almost certainly guarantee that she will continue to add to these totals and we’d advise you take the tweet with the biggest pinch of salt possible.
