The L.A. Times reported that Kinsman chose to go public in the film, which will also be featured on CNN and in some theatres, to share her side of the story – which was never released in its entirety at the conclusion of the sexual assault investigation back in 2013.
The sexual encounter between Winston and Kinsman happened on December 7, 2012. Winston’s attorney has said that the sex was consensual, and Florida police chose not to file charges against Winston. The Florida State QB would go on to win the Heisman Trophy, the youngest winner of the prestigious award in college football history.
According to ESPN, Kinsman filed a civil lawsuit against Florida State’s board of trustees this past month, claiming Florida State had knowledge of her alleged “sexual harassment and discrimination” by Winston, and that it created a “hostile educational environment for her.” The lawsuit was filed the same day Winston declared for the 2015 NFL draft – a draft in which he is considered one of the top two QB prospects available and one of the top 10 prospects overall.
This could have an influence on Winston’s draft stock as he is expected to be drafted very early in the 2015 draft by one of the several QB-needy teams.
