No. 14 Arizona State put on another fantastic defensive performance as they defeated No. 17 Utah, 19-16, in overtime. The Utes had a golden opportunity to put the game away.
However, kicker Andy Phillips missed a 35-yard field goal, which surprised many since he is one of the most reliable kickers in college football. Sun Devils kicker Zane Gonzalez capitalized on this and nailed a 36-yard field goal.
Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly didn’t have his best game, but he was decent enough as he threw for 205 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 18-of-32 passing.
Running back Demario Richard ran for 116 yards on 14 carries. Wide receiver Jaelen Strong put on another strong performance as he caught five passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.
For the Utes, quarterback Travis Wilson had a dreadful performance as he threw for 57 yards and a touchdown on 12-of-22 passing.
This put running back Devontae Booker’s effort to waste. Booker was a workhorse as he carried the ball 37 times for 146 yards.
