No. 5 Oregon has climbed back into national title contention since losing to Arizona at home, and their case will be made even stronger if they can beat Stanford, who has defeated them twice in a row.
The Ducks won 59-41 in their last game on the road against Cal to improve to 7-1. Quarterback Marcus Mariota threw his first interception of the season but threw five touchdown passes in an overall fantastic performance.
Running back Royce Freeman led the Ducks in rushing with 112 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Byron Marshall also got involved in the offense as he caught four passes for 133 yards and a touchdown.
However, the Oregon offense will face a stiff test from Stanford’s defense, which ranks second in the nation with 12.5 points allowed per game.
The Cardinal defense has had Oregon’s number the past two years, and Mariota is looking for his first win against the Cardinal in his collegiate career.
Stanford had a great performance on offense last week with 38 points against Oregon State, and Oregon has shown they can be vulnerable on defense.
This college football season has been filled with upsets, and signs point to one happening this game. It will be up to Oregon to prove their offense can take on an elite defense.
Prediction: Stanford 24, Oregon 20
