No team in the SEC gets to just one loss on the season with a bit of luck and a lot of talent and Auburn needed as much as they could get of both of those to come away with the win against the Ole Miss Rebels.
The road to a 2nd bite at the National Championship apple doesn’t get much smoother for Auburn, but winning on the road against Ole Miss (in the same location where the Rebels beat down hated-rival Alabama) was a huge hurdle to overcome as the Tigers get a slightly less daunting game against Texas A&M upcoming.
If Auburn can win out all they need is to hope that Mississippi State loses to either Alabama or Mississippi in order to secure a spot in the SEC championship game and a #1 overall ranking. But even without winning the SEC title Auburn could still win the national title if they maintain their ranking and get into the College Football Playoffs. One win at a time is all the Tigers need.
Here are the top 5 winners from Week 10 of college football:
Mississippi State and Auburn – At this point in the season it looks like a crime that Mississippi State and Auburn were not put on the schedule together. Hopefully both teams will win out and play each other for all the marbles in the National Championship game. That will be must-see-TV.
Florida – Head coach Will Muschamp got arguably the biggest win of his career with that dominating win over Georgia. The SEC East title and a shot at the SEC championship may be out of reach, but convincing wins over their next few opponents – and maybe even a competitive game against FSU – could propel the team into a decent bowl game, or even the top 25 ranking.
TCU – It took more effort that the Horned Frogs may have anticipated, but TCU beat West Virginia and has proven that they are the team to beat in the Big XII. The only problem will be Baylor, who have a matching record and a tie-breaker against them.
Oregon – By beating Stanford and watching Ole Miss lose, the Ducks now have a commanding lead of the Pac-12 North division, and are actually in a position to clinch the division next week if they win and Washington State loses to UCLA
UCLA – Getting that win over Arizona has the Bruins climbing the ladder in the Pac-12 South. And with a tie-breaking win over the Arizona State Sun Devils, UCLA just needs to win out and hope ASU gets one more loss to clinch the Pac-12 South title.
