No. 9 Arizona State improved to 7-1 with a 19-16 overtime victory over Utah, and they have another tough game ahead of them against No. 10 Notre Dame.
Sun Devils quarterback Taylor Kelly held his own against a tough Utah defense with 205 yards and a touchdown with an interception on 18-of-32 passing while rushing for 55 yards on 14 carries. Running back Demario Richard emerged as a feature back with 116 yards on 14 carries.
Wide receiver Jaelen Strong caught five passes for 77 yards and a touchdown. Kicker Zane Gonzalez also shined as he kicked four field goals, including the game winner.
The Fighting Irish are also 7-1, but their latest win didn’t come easy. Their defense continued to look shaky after starting out the season strong as they allowed Navy to score 39 points in a 49-39 win.
Quarterback Everett Golson had his best game of the season with six total touchdowns, and he threw for 315 yards with three touchdowns against one interception.
He also added 33 yards and three touchdowns on nine carries. Running back Tarean Folston ran for 149 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
This will likely be an offensive shootout, but the Sun Devils have the home-field advantage and enough weapons to take advantage of a regressing Fighting Irish defense.
Prediction: Arizona State 27, Notre Dame 24
