In a match that could eliminate the loser from SEC title game contention, the Auburn Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 12 of College Football.
The Tigers are coming off a shocking upset loss at home against the Texas A&M Aggies in which they had several critical fumbles which knocked them out of the College Football Playoff rankings and potentially out of the SEC title game. QB Nick Marshall is still playing great with 25 total TDs and a 6.9 yards/carry average on the ground. Marshall is still a Heisman trophy candidate even despite Auburn’s recent loss. A win over Georgia would help Auburn regain some momentum as it prepares for the fateful Iron Bowl rematch with hated rival Alabama.
The Georgia Bulldogs recovered from their stunning loss to Florida with a dominating 63-31 win over Kentucky last week – but this week the Bulldogs have another weapon in their formidable arsenal: RB Todd Gurley, the former Heisman trophy candidate who averaged over 150 yards per game and 8.4 yards/carry before a four-game suspension ended his trophy hopes. Even with four fewer games than backup RB Nick Chubb, Gurley still leads the team in TDs, yards/game, and even has a 50-yard pass this year. The Bulldogs are a much more dangerous team with Gurley on the field.
Prediction: Auburn – The Tigers may be down (on the CFP polls) but they certainly are not out, and unlike Georgia have a defense that has played much better against the elite SEC offenses. They are excellent at stopping the run – Georgia’s specialty – and can put up points almost at will. Georgia’s defense will be in a real bind throughout the game and will be in serious danger of being eliminated from the SEC title game this week.
